What if I am a foreigner and want to buy a home in South Korea?
South Korea has no nationality test or residency test in the Act read. A foreign buyer reports a sale contract to the local reporting authority within 30 days of signing, jointly with the seller. Land in listed defence, heritage and nature protection zones needs permission before the contract is signed.
What if the land is in a protected zone?
Permission from the local reporting authority is needed before signing, and a contract signed without it has no legal effect. The authority decides within 30 days for a defence area and within 15 days for other zones, and may extend the period by up to 30 days.

The gain is taxed in the same classified way as a resident gain. A home held under 1 year is taxed at 70 percent and one held from 1 to under 2 years at 60 percent. A corporate payer withholds 10 percent of the price, or less where cost is proven.
Does South Korea tax inheritance of a home for a foreign owner?
